सुंदरबन दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा समृद्ध मैंनग्रोव फॉरेस्ट है. फॉरेस्ट सर्वे ऑफ इंडिया के मुताबिक बीते एक दशक में पश्चिम बंगाल का घना मैंग्रोव कवर सिमटता जा रहा है. 2011 जहां इसका विस्तार 1038 वर्ग किलोमीटर था वहीं 2021 994 वर्ग किलोमीटर रह गया है. यानी 4.23 फीसदी कमी. मीठे पानी की लगातार की कमी की वजह से भारतीय इलाके के सुंदरबन के डेल्टा में सुंदरी मैंग्रोव की प्रजाति धीरे-धीरे खत्म होती जा रही है.
